A man on a scooter has died after crashing into a wall. According to Jacksonville Beach Police Department Sgt. Tom Bingham, the man suffered head injuries after the crash in the 1000 block of First Street South this afternoon.

Investigators believe 63-year-old Jerry Batton, from Neptune Beach, left the road for some reason and crashed.

Batton, who was not wearing a helmet, was taken to Shands Jacksonville for treatment, but he died there.

Police are still working to determine what caused the crash.  The scooter was the only vehicle involved, according to Bingham.
