Jacksonville Developmental Center is now going to close

Transitions of Western Illinois commented on how the closing of the Jacksonville Development Center might effect them. Sean Eifert, Director of Sales and Production, said, “We’re willing to do whatever we can to assist the State in transitioning people back into the community.”

Transitions did lose business in their laundry service program because they provide laundry services to Jacksonville Development Center.

Jacksonville welcomes home a fighting son

Tuesday a crowd of about 2,000 people stood in the afternoon sun, waiting for wounded war veteran Ben Tomlinson to return home.

At about the same time Tomlinson, 24, was leaving Anniston’s airport in a van with his family, bound for his home. As they traveled along Alabama 21 signs and even a billboard read “welcome home Ben” and people stood along the roadside to welcome him. The Anniston Fire Department displayed its trucks in tribute and firefighters turned out in a show of respect.

Jacksonville’s professional services payroll: 2.2 billion

Jacksonville owner regrets firing Coughlin

Wayne Weaver, the original owner of the Jacksonville Jaguars, who sold the franchise to Illinois businessman Shahid Khan and is turning over the reins this week, said recently that he regrets firing Tom Coughlin back in 2002.

“If hindsight you could change, I’ll be honest with you: I probably would have never changed Coughlin,” said Weaver, in an interview with Jaguars.com.

Tide returns to action against Jacksonville

The Crimson Tide basketball team will return to action tonight after an 8-day break for Christmas vacation, hosting the Jacksonville Dolphins of the Atlantic Sun Conference in the final non-conference home game of the season. The game will tip off at 8:00 pm CST and will be televised regionally on CSS while being streamed worldwide on ESPN3.

Man on Scooter Dies in Jacksonville Beach Crash

A man on a scooter has died after crashing into a wall. According to Jacksonville Beach Police Department Sgt. Tom Bingham, the man suffered head injuries after the crash in the 1000 block of First Street South this afternoon. More >

NFL approves Jacksonville Jaguars sale

National Football League owners have unanimously approved the sale of the Jacksonville Jaguars to Shahid Khan, making Khan the NFL’s first minority owner.

Khan purchased the franchise from owner Wayne Weaver for $760 million. Weaver helped Jacksonville acquire the expansion team in 1993 and has been its sole owner.
